Start with matched cameras
The quickest way to a painless edit is two identical bodies. Matching sensors means matching colour, noise and dynamic range, so the A and B angles cut together without a grade fight. If the budget forces two different cameras, keep them in the same family and shoot a colour chart on both before the first setup.
Keep the glass consistent
Use the same lens series on both cameras. Zooms like a 24–70 f/2.8 on each body give you flexibility for framing without moving the tripods every time the subject changes.
Light for the face, not the room
A single large soft source — a 600W daylight COB through a deep parabolic softbox — does most of the work. Add a small backlight to separate the subject and a practical in the background for depth.
Sound is half the interview
- A shotgun on a boom just out of frame for the main track
- Wireless lavaliers as backup — always record both
- A 32-bit float recorder so a sudden laugh never clips
Our Two-Camera Interview Kit package contains exactly this setup and can be customised in the kit builder.
